We had a fun day. After math (review and preparation for IMI), we watched the chorus show and then had Arts Alive (Tiffany). You can view our beautiful works of art at the end our hall outside our classroom. After lunch we did do a reading whole group activity with comprehension strategies. And after music (I know, I shouldn't have started a sentence with a conjunction), we did a science experiment. Somewhere in there we did do our spelling test.
Cool day. Have a great weekend.
MATH: IMI review - quarterly test will be either Tuesday or Thursday of next week. There will not be a paper study guide, but I have attached a study guide here. It does not include balance scales or graphing. Download 3rd Quarter Math Review
Language Arts: spelling test tomorrow (time words) - we practiced today with Sparkle and Firecracker spelling. We worked on prefixes this week (pre-, im-, in-, de-, mis-, and micro-). The only trouble was identifying words in which the "prefix" is not really a prefix but just part of the word, as in INteresting, MISter, IMportant, ...) I have been conferencing with informational writing this week. I think this has been our best genre of writing. Next quarter we will write persuasive essays.
Reading: We took the WW#9 test and read independently BFG page 87-114. There is no written assignment that goes with this reading.
SOCIAL STUDIES: Compromises (2 house Congress; Slave Trade and Slaves being counted in population for representation in Congress) then Cash Cab (2 sets of winners this time.) Good job.
The art show was a huge success. Thank you for supporting the art program here at Davis. Mrs. Ward truly is fabulous and offers so much to our students. The chorus show was excellent as well. We will have an opportunity to see it tomorrow at 9:15 when the chorus performs for the school.
Thank you SO much for your donations. Band-aids, kleenex and paper have been coming in all week. Mr. and Mrs. Heinemann donated about 20 reams of paper plus other students brought in individual reams so the 4th grade, and our class in particular, are sitting pretty for paper. I may even be a good neighbor and share my resources. Once again, you guys are incredible.
I thought for sure we were going to have snow day. I think that was probably our last chance. Oh well, we don't have any days to make up.
