December News

Lots of exciting things are happening this month. Please look in your child's backpack for information about our first CBI trip. Our trip is next Wednesday, December 7th. We plan on heading to the mall. This is a great opportunity to practice skills that we have been working on in the classrroom.

Also, on December 9th we have ,our school wide holiday sing. We have been listening to some great music. If you wish to attend please come early.

Finally, our last day of school is Thursday December 22nd.

The weeks in this month fly by.

Happy New Year! It is hard to believe that we've been in school only four days and we have another three day weekend. Enjoy the the three day weekend.

Read Across America, is one of my favorite times of the year. I look forward to sharing Dr. Seuss with your children. Here are some special activities planned for the week:

Please don't forget school is closed on Tuesday November 8th

Also, don't forget our feast is on Wedneday November 9th. We are eating at 11am in the classroom however, if you are eating lunch you must pay 2.75 for each lunch in the school's lobby.

Parking maybe difficult that day, you maybe difficult that day, you may want to park at the Methodist Church and walk to school.

October News

We are having a wonderful year with your children. They have a lot of personality and seem so happy at school. In fact this class loves to laugh. We had an issue in the library when we all, including me, got into a laughing fit during story time.

Fall has always been my favorite time of the year. We have many activites to complete but our favorite is observing the changes outside.

I will let you know about lunches. We prefer to eat in the classroom, but welcome parents and friends.

PJ DAY

Please Support Relay for life and have fun doing it. Wee Willie Winkie Day is coming to Davis Elementary on Friday September 23rd. For a $1.00 donation to the American Cancer Society, you can wear your PJ's to school.

Baseball Information

My name is David Hahn and I am the Board Member/Coordinator for Sandy Plains Baseball (SPBA) responsible for the Challenger division.

 

My apologies about the lack of information on our website. We just finished the new website and are working out the kinks. The plan is to have information and registration available for Challenger for the Spring Season (starts March ’12). In the interim, we are handling the fall registration the ‘old fashioned way’, namely, there is a form (attached for your reference and distribution) that would need to be filled out and emailed back to challenger@sandyplainsbaseball.com.

 

The goal of the program is to have children of special needs participate in an athletic event, improve their baseball skills, have fun, and experience both team camaraderie and being cheered on by spectators. We play every Saturday from 8:30 to 9:30 at Harrison Park (off Shallowford Rd.). The boys from SPBA Bronco division (early teens), who take the field at 9:30, are the official helpers. They pair up with our Challenger boys/girls and help them catch, run the bases, and hit (other volunteers help as well – usually siblings). It is not competitive play. They all receive a uniform (shirt and hat) of the same team. First they play the field together, then the hit and run the bases. Pending skill level, they will hit a pitched ball or off the tee.

 

There is no cost for participation, and we provide equipment (balls, bats, etc.).

 

Uniforms have already been ordered, but I did order some extras and can always order more. I would love it if you can distribute and potentially get more players and families involved. We really want to build this program at SPBA.
